 This term, the Year 7&8 extension class made visual texts using scratch (a coding programme) to share their understanding of a chosen Whakataukī/Māori proverb.

Whale Tales 2022

We have been fortunate enough to have had Tāmaki Regeneration sponsor us with a mini whale tail for the Whale Tales art trail!

In the first couple of weeks of term, classes from across the school participated by designing tails!

The Year 7 & 8 extension children then decided on their favourite designs. Ezekiel and Matelita, from year 7 & 8, had their designs chosen. 

Ezekiel and Matelita then combined their designs before pencilling the final design onto the sculpture!

Our tail is looking amazing! Ezekiel's and Matelita's next step is now to begin painting the tail.

Creative Challenge from home #1

 Kia ora Pt Englanders! 

We are back at home but that doesn't mean being creative has to stop! We are going to have a creative challenge!!

There are 2 challenges for today...

Challenge 1: PENN

Create a short video clip of some learning you have been doing at home over the last couple of days and post it on your blog along with a description. Send Miss West an email at hwest@ptengland.school.nz to tell you have done this and for it to appear on the school news, PENN!

Challenge 2: Photo time!

We have started doing photography in creative space this term. Take a photo of a taonga/treasure and share it on your blog along with a description as to why it is a taonga AND why it is a great photo.

You can do this either through the camera on your chromebook or on another device you might have at home (with whānau/ parental permission). Make sure your whānau are happy with you sharing this item on your public blog. Send Miss West an email to let her know you have completed this challenge!

Try to be as creative as possible when taking the photo while remembering the kawa of care and how you treat your device!!

Brazil - Festival Poster

While we have been learning from home, children in Team 4 have been learning all about Brazil as part of our school-wide inquiry:

Today, the children were tasked to design a poster for a festival in Brazil. We had learned about food, landmarks, geography, sport and lots more throughout the week so making the poster allowed the children to combine this learning to create colourful posters. Welcome back!

Kia ora! Talofa lava! Fakaalofa lahi atu! Bula! It is 2020!! Welcome back to school! And welcome to all our new students in Team 4! We are all so excited for the year ahead and all the learning, creating and sharing we are going to get up to!

Kia pai te kotahi artwork 2

This week, room 10 did some collaborative artwork. We were each given a little square which was one part of a bigger artwork. Some examples of the little squares were:

We each worked on our square. We then put them together to create the final piece of artwork. As we put the pieces together, we realised that the artwork was the Manaiakalani logo!

Here is our abstract version of the Manaiakalani logo which we created!

We realised that it was quite tricky to enlarge each piece so that all the pieces fitted together. We can be thinking more about how we can use our knowledge of fractions to help us do this better next time. It was also challenging to choose the correct colours to blend together.

Even so, we were pretty happy with our modern take on the Manaiakalani logo! What do you think?

Kia pai te kotahi Artwork

This term, we made a 'Kia pai te kotahi - better together' banner to hang up in our classroom. We were each given a letter which we had to colour in. We then had to decorate around the letter in any way we wanted, to represent us. The artwork was only completed because EVERYONE in Ako 3 contributed.

The artwork is so big it is difficult to get it all into one photo! It is also double sided! Here are some photos of us admiring our amazing artwork!

Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower Challenge

Today in class, we had a challenge to create the tallest tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti. It was really difficult! The groups only had 10 marshmallows and 20 pieces of spaghetti each. Some groups realised they could break the marshmallows up into smaller pieces but then it got really messy!!

We learned lots about team work. Most groups had to work through some challenges where their groups didn't work together as well as they could. We talked about it afterwards to think about what did and didn't work. The biggest challenge was how to deal with people in the group who just wanted to eat all the marshmallows!!
